Palafrugell buoy managers complain of «poor planning»

The entities that won the tender to manage the buoy fields on the beaches of Llafranc, Tamariu, Canadell and Portbo-Calau – where there are a total of 914 buoys – complain of “poor municipal planning” regarding compliance with regulations. After the Councillor for Public Roads of the Palafrugell Town Council, Jaume Palahí, warned that the current breaches of the regulations would prevent the approval of the Use Plan to install the buoy fields this summer, now those who won the tender indicate that this situation has been occurring «for some time» and that «it is impossible» to reverse it.

The president of the Tamariu Nautical Club -one of the companies that won the tender- Josep M. Sánchez, explains that they have not seen the report from the Generalitat that would warn of these breaches: «They only tell us that this resolution exists and that the use plan will not be approved when we already have half of the buoys contracted and without the Mar buoy fields plan. We are talking about a very large investment that has already been made, this cannot be changed from one day to the next.» Sánchez añade que las problemáticas son varias y de diversa característica: por un lado, hubo una modificación de las delimitaciones del espacio donde colocar las boyas y por otro habría boyas demasiado cercanas a praderas de posidonia.

As for the concrete slabs, Sánchez explains that they have been there for “more than 30 years” and it would be necessary to study whether it is necessary to move them or whether, due to their adaptation to the marine environment, they should be left as they are. «If there is a dead buoy that is too close to the posidonia, perhaps it should be changed. The other issue is that some areas were defined to place the smaller buoys, but, nevertheless, the Maritime Authority made the concession of letting us place them as we had them because they were out to sea», says Sánchez.

The president of the Yacht Club stressed that «we would be willing to collaborate from the outset, as it could not be otherwise, if it is necessary to change a death and we only ask that this can be scheduled in such a way that we do not harm the ecological balance that exists at the moment».

The buoy field managers insist on holding a meeting in which the City Council, the Environment Department and themselves will take part in order to «get to work immediately» and unblock the situation so that the Use Plan can be approved: «We believe that this social alarm should not be raised in a month of March when things are already going on. This should have been done in October. The ideal would be to sit down to find out what changes are to be made and what implementation schedule they may have», concludes Sánchez.
