Taking part in an offshore regatta offers an experience very different from a conventional sailing trip. Last Saturday, at 10:00 AM, the fleet set off under overcast skies and restless seas, marked by shifting winds that kicked up waves between one meter and, at times, nearly two. The wind, coming from the south-southeast with an intensity of 8 to 9 knots, allowed for a nearly direct line toward Formentera. Even so, continuous wind shifts forced the fifteen participating sailboats to perform different tacks throughout the first day.
As the early hours of Sunday approached, the fastest vessels were already off the coast of the Pityusic Islands. Leading the fleet in a very close race were the *Beneteau First 50 “Nadir” skippered by Miki Puig, and the Farr 40 “Phoenix,” owned by Xavier Peus (CV Badalona). Both maintained a minimal gap when the decisive moment arrived: choosing the best approach strategy to La Savina. The “Nadir” opted to head toward the east coast of Ibiza, while the “Phoenix” preferred to round the island, leaving it to port.
The tactic chosen by the “Nadir” turned out to be the most efficient. Thanks to this maneuver, it managed to cross the finish line first and claim victory in the RI category, both in real and compensated time. The Oyster Lightwave 48 “Yey Omo Eja,” owned by Marc Albiol (CV Badalona), ultimately completed the podium in second place.
Participating in a regatta of this kind allows you to experience sailing with the intensity of a “professional” crew: constant tactical decisions, coordinated teamwork on deck, and the thrill of advancing mile by mile toward the goal. It is an experience that combines learning, adrenaline, and the pleasure of facing the sea with team spirit. If you are interested in discovering this experience from the inside, the sailing experiences we organize will bring you closer to this exciting world in a safe and personalized way.
